Navigating Spain; Exhausting and Confusing (6/29)

Well it happened. The dreaded airport cooties got to me. Day 6 of my trip and my head is pounding and my throat hurts. The pace of this trip so far has been the equivalent to bootcamp in the southern summer. I already have bad knees and a bum back, add to that being sick and my resolve has ground to a halt. As much as I wanted to visit Toledo, I just can’t. So I stayed behind to try and seek out relief in a local farmacia.

These places are anomalies in the pharmacy world. What do they sell? Why did they choose to sell these things? Why is a parafarmacia not a farmacia at all? These are questions I have not found the answers to. So far no less than 3 people behind the counter have advised me to just take the Spanish equivalent to Advil for garganta y cabeza dolor… that and some lozenges. I’m looking for cough syrup with the rapid acting ingredients I’m used to. It would be nice to have the green mucinex booger fighting my stuffiness, but these ingredients seem to elude me.

Maybe it’s because Americans are so used to diagnosing themselves, maybe I need to go to a special dr here. Whatever it is, I still have a nasty cough but at least my head doesn’t hurt as bad.
