Ghosts in The Attic

We are at a crossroads. Yes, in America and it will determine whether we continue to be a relevant part of the world or even a functional country.

But not just here, globally we are flying into uncharted territory. All companies are putting all bets on AI. On one hand AI will take your jobs, yes you, all of you, or at least your company will try to fire you to figure out how to make your position cheaper. On the other hand, they fail with AI and these companies and governments bankrupt themselves and inadvertently us along with them.

Here’s a scary thought regarding AI. When AI does something of consequence that harms people in one way or another, who is to blame? Let’s say an AI software falsely identified you as someone with a warrant. When you get tackled and inevitably resist because you have no idea what’s going on, you’ll get more charges. When they finally figure out you are who you say you are (maybe) who’s at fault? What oversight has to be changed to fix this? No one. That’s the problem. These companies and now governments can get away with telling you that this is just a glitch. A problem of no real responsibility for anyone and to anyone.

We here in America are watching democracy be dismantled in real time, and how many oligarchs and big tech bros are feeding the machine that tears down democracy. Behind all of these human rights violations, the targets on innocent lives both immigrant and citizen alike are being driven by AI and the growing security state perpetuated by companies like Palantir, Flock, Axiom, and many others. Information about you is being passed around to the highest bidder, or at worst for free. A profile of who you are, where you go, what you buy, what you think, who visits you, has been created about you and can be used against you.

I had decided to get off social media awhile ago and this was the push I needed. I charged out my email to an untraceable one, I moved my things from Google… a very difficult process I may add. I started to really care about my privacy and that of my family.

Everything going on in America is a violation of what we are supposed to stand for, the immigrants that made our country great, the rights of people we were sworn to uphold. And now the laws seem meaningless. The government is fighting, maiming and killing people. Who will put a stop to this?

Us. It’s us… we have to stand firm together. Build communities, connect, and make connections. It’s our isolation that is driving the wedge between everyday people. We are consumed by the division that is being utilized against us by social media and the news. We are being divided more and more with our differences being exploited as fears of the “other side”.

Let me tell you something important. We are united and we are indivisible when we choose what is right and what is best for humanity rather than what is best for corporations.
